Your Garden Has Changed. Has Your Irrigation?

A fall irrigation check helps you spot what needs attention before the season changes. Your garden keeps growing and changing; its watering system deserves a fresh look, too.

A sprinkler spraying the path. A planting bed that stays dry. A controller still running on its summer schedule. Small details can tell you it is time to look at how your irrigation system serves your garden today.

For homeowners in Seattle, Bellevue and the Eastside, fall is a useful time to take stock. Before you put irrigation out of mind for the season, note the problems you have seen and make a plan to address them.

Start with what you can see

Watch each zone during a brief system check. Look for damaged heads, water landing on pavement, and plants blocking the spray. An unusually wet patch may deserve attention, especially when it cannot be explained by rainfall. The local Saving Water Partnership recommends checking for leaks and correcting misdirected sprinkler coverage.

You do not need to diagnose the problem yourself. A photo, a short video and a note about when it happens give a professional a useful starting point.

Give the controller a seasonal check

Automatic does not mean set forever. Review your watering schedule as conditions change, and check the soil before adding water. The Saving Water Partnership recommends checking moisture below the surface, where roots need it. Avoid choosing a schedule from the calendar alone: planting, exposure and soil all matter.

Consider the garden you have now

Have you added a planting bed, moved shrubs or changed how you use the yard? Bring those changes into the conversation. Ask whether existing sprinkler placement still makes sense, whether a drip zone would suit a bed, and whether a controller upgrade would make management easier.

Britescape’s irrigation services include repairs and system upgrades. Connecting that work with garden care gives us a chance to discuss the plants and the watering together.

Tell us what is happening

Send your city or ZIP code, photos of the affected area, the controller model if you know it, and a short description of the problem. Tell us whether you are seeking a repair or planning a larger garden improvement. We will help you identify the right next step.
