Britescape received both a Grand Award and the Judges Award at the annual Environmental Landscape Awards sponsored by the Washington Association for Landscape Professionals (WALP). This award winning project entitled, “Ballard Garden Flat”, centered around the home-owner’s vision of transforming this typical Ballard basement and backyard into a patio oasis for Airbnb visitors to Seattle. The Airbnb experience was created to provide a tranquil stop for travelers throughout the seasons in this quiet Ballard neighborhood. The project began with an original, cracked and sinking 1947 driveway. This passage traveled through the backyard and was in desperate need of removal and replaced with a safe, usable space for guests.
Unique design and functionality were at the forefront in the planning process. Special attention was given to each and every element of the design and choice of materials. In addition to the renovated basement space, the outdoor living area sets this offering apart from the other lodging options. The new outdoor space boasts of safe stone walkways, a beautiful covered epi deck with built-in benches, drought tolerant plants, landscape lighting and other touches that coax visitors outdoors even in our rainy northwest climate. The addition of the infrared heater (a Pacific Northwest must for outdoor living!) was recently added to enhance the cozy feel during cooler months. To top it off, an 18″ Willowbrite chandelier adorns the pergola adding ambiance, charm and beauty! What outside space is complete without one!
